KinGyel Journey: Gho

The Gho is the traditional and national attire for men in Bhutan. It is a distinctive knee-length robe, folded and tied at the waist with a woven belt known as the kera. More than just a garment, the Gho represents discipline, unity, and national pride. Bhutanese men wear the Gho every day—whether in schools, government offices, or during festivals and religious ceremonies. One of its unique features is a large pocket formed above the belt, which is often used to carry daily essentials. Wearing the Gho is more than following a dress code; it’s a way of honoring Bhutan’s rich heritage and preserving its cultural identity.
